New independent report highlights untapped potential for growth in food and drink

Nestlé has welcomed the publication of a new report which highlights the enormous potential in the food and drink industry for growth and helping to rebalance Britain’s economy.

The report, Appetite for Global Success, published by the think tank ResPublica, and sponsored by Nestlé UK, emphasises the huge contribution that food and drink manufacturing makes to the British economy. It calls on the Government to put food and drink – the largest sector of UK manufacturing – at the heart of industrial strategy.

The food and drink industry has not had sufficient focus in previous approaches to government industrial policy, and yet the sector offers untapped opportunities for the economy in terms of innovation, skilled job creation and sharing economic growth throughout the country.

Speaking at an event in Westminster to launch the report, Ian Rayson, Corporate Communications Director for Nestlé UK & Ireland, said:

“Nestlé welcomes this report by ResPublica, which highlights the enormous opportunity in the food and drink industry for growth, skilled job creation and rebalancing the economy. Nestlé has supported ResPublica's work because a successful UK industrial strategy is essential for our industry and the wider economy.”

A full copy of the report can be downloaded from the ResPublica website.

The Government’s White Paper on industrial strategy is expected to be published before the end of the year.
