Sharing is caring
Since 1936, Quality Street has been held a special place in the heart of the nation. Whether you share a tin at Christmas, pass around a box at a birthday or simply buy a pouch for your own enjoyment – Quality Street is right there with you.
There are 11 varieties of Quality Street in the range, all with their own tasty story to tell. You might opt for the classic The Green Triangle or perhaps you would prefer a newer addition such as Strawberry Delight – the choice is yours.
If you know someone passionate about their Quality Street favourites, you can now get them an unforgettable gift. Personalize a tin of Quality Street on their very own online webshop. You can add a personal touch by re-wording the tin lid, choose their much-loved Quality Street sweets - pick up to 6 sweets (or the 11 sweet mix if they love them all) so they never miss out on their favourites again.
In a category first, Quality Street has moved to paper-based packaging.
Quality Street aim to remove over 2 billion pieces of packaging material by 2023 in the move to recyclable wrappers, as part of their journey to make all Quality Street packaging recyclable.
You will start to see some new paper wrappers in packs, but the delicious sweets inside remain unchanged!
Developed by packaging experts at Nestlé's research and development centre in York, the innovate design recycles with ease by using a special vegetable oil-based coating for the paper, which will break down naturally during the recycling process.
Nine out of the 11 Quality Street sweets will move to paper-based packaging. The Orange Crunch and the Green Triangle will remain in their existing foil wrappers, which can be recycled when bundled together with identical material.
We're proud that this major packaging innovation has been pioneered by our factories here in the UK and to be taking huge steps forward towards Nestlé's 2025 sustainability commitment.
A walk down memory lane
The Toffee King moves
John Mackintosh, known as the 'Toffee King' sets up the world's first toffee factory in the Yorkshire town of Halifax. After a fire, he builds a new factory in another part of the town, where Quality Street is still made today.
The very first tin of Quality Street
Sold for two shillings, the tin contains a mix of 18 individually wrapped sweets, including 11 chocolates and seven toffees.
The Street must go on
Most confectionery production comes to a halt due to the war. Quality Street continues, but with fewer sweets. Wartime shortages led to one permanent change: The Purple One's Brazil nut became a hazelnut. To this day, the sweet is shaped like a Brazil nut.
Who could say no?
Post-war, the brand focuses on variety and abundance. Our first TV advert arrives with the tagline: "No one ever says no to Mackintosh's Quality Street".
Another new flavor
The 1970s bring a range of gifting tins and cartons. Quality Street maintains its regal splendor with a commemorative tin for the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977.
Everyone has a favorite
Our iconic sweets and new adverts celebrate everyone having a different favorite. And in 1988, Rowntree Mackintosh merges with Nestlé.
A Christmas classic
With a focus on gifting and a Christmas TV advert, Quality Street becomes synonymous with the festive season in the UK. The pack moves from its classic round design to the now iconic octagonal tin.
A modern makeover
The tins and cartons grow into the new millennium, removing the traditional ribbon and bow to make our colorful sweets the stars of the show.
Welcome the tub
In the 2010s, we launch the tub as a new way for families and friends to share their favorites.
A tin to celebrate the royal wedding
Quality Street releases a limited-edition tin inspired by regal wedding cakes, and topped with an illustration of William and Kate by renowned portrait artist Cath Riley.
A personalized tin full of favorites
The Quality Street online shop launches. With a few clicks, fans can personalize their very own tin, fill it with their favorites, and have it delivered straight to their door. Magic.
A new milestone
"The Purple One" - delicious milk chocolate, oozing with runny caramel and sprinkled with a layer of hazelnut pieces.
"Orange crunch" - smooth chocolate with an indulgent orange chocolate filling with scrumptious crunchy pieces, adding a crunch to every bite.
And new favourites sharing pouches.
What's more, we welcomed the new Quality Street favourites Pouch Range for when you just can't get enough of your favourite sweets.
