Quality Street fans have a treat in store this weekend if they visit the Bankfield Museum in Halifax. The Bankfield, who hold the world’s largest collection of Quality Street packaging and memorabilia, are holding a special exhibition of sweets to celebrate the town’s sweetest industry. Halifax has been known as Toffee Town for over a hundred years, and the Mackintosh’s toffee factory (now owned by Nestlé) is still making toffees and chocolates at the rate of a billion a year. Toque d’Or, the prestigious competition by Nestlé Professional, offers commis chef apprentices and students at catering colleges unique and exciting ‘real world’ experiences of what the hospitality industry has to offer in a career. In collaboration with businesses from all streams of industry, the competition showcases the vast opportunities on offer to those considering a career in this vibrant industry. This year over 80 college teams and 170 apprentices from across the UK and Ireland registered to take part. David Hix, Nestlé UK & Ireland Supply Chain Director and Eleni Petrides, our Gatwick Charity Champion, have visited Whittington Hospital in London to see how employee fundraising for our charity partner, Macmillan, helps people living with cancer. Nestlé employees have so far raised more than £237,000 for the charity through a number of activities and, as part of the visit, David and Eleni met Tracey, Macmillan Information and Support Manager, who explained why continued support is much needed. Askeaton Touring Club recently launched their upcoming charity cycle that aims to raise over €20,000 for Down Syndrome Ireland. Supported by Nestlé's Wyeth Nutrition plant, Askeaton, Co. Limerick, the annual 170km cycle over two days in June has been running for a whopping 30 years raising over €1million for a range of charities since 1988. The club started as an idea from a small group of Wyeth colleagues, expanding over the years to involve some 120 people on average at the yearly event. Find out more here.
