At Nestlé we do not tolerate any form of harassment or discrimination. Together with our Eradicating Racism network we are working hard to educate our colleagues, to attract and hire more ethnically diverse colleagues to work with us and to make sure everyone is treated fairly and with respect.
Race to the top
We signed the Race at Work Charter to demonstrate our commitment to advancing racial equality in 5 key ways:
- Appoint an executive sponsor for race
- Compile and publish statistics on our progress in achieving ethnic diversity
- Commit at Board level to zero tolerance of harassment and bullying
- Emphasise that equality in the workplace is the responsibility of all leaders and managers
- Actively support ethnic minority career progression
Our Eradicating Racism Network
This network formed in 2020 when many passionate colleagues came together to talk about race and racism in response to the Black Lives Matter movement. Our purpose is clear - to educate and empower an environment within Nestlé and beyond, where everyone of all races and religions can thrive.
Together we will challenge and educate each other to promote and accelerate inclusion, creating an organisation that is diverse and anti-racist.
Since forming, our network have been instrumental in engaging colleagues in learning events with external speakers, in contributing to changes in the way we recruit colleagues and influencing the policies we have for example the introduction of our Bank Holiday Exchange policy.
Learning togetherWe are delighted that in 2020 Nadia Hamid joined us on our Sales graduate scheme and has been making a wonderful contribution to our business ever since! Nadia immediately inspired us with her feedback on her experiences coming through the Academy recruitment process. She was keen to contribute to our network and now co-leads the learning & events stream. You can learn more about how Nadia inspires us in her blog.
Getting real on race
In 2020, our UK and Ireland CEO Stefano Agostini wrote an open letter calling for us all, within Nestlé, to do more to address the lack of racial diversity in our organisation.
As part of our commitment to ‘getting real’ we wanted to listen to our colleagues and understand their experiences. We are very grateful to each and every one for their courage and honesty. Their stories were not always easy to listen to but they were vital in helping us to understand something that many of us have never faced and to help us to focus our actions. We feature them here, with their permission, to share our learning and inspire others beyond Nestlé to take action.
