Science-based nutrition
From our beginning, we have used science to improve lives through nutrition.
With our global R&D network, we develop science-based nutritional solutions to support health across life stages. Key research areas include gastrointestinal health, nutrition and dietary recommendations, metabolic health, brain health and personalised nutrition.
And for many years now we have set the largest research and development network of any food and drink business to the task of reducing added sugar, saturated fat / trans fat and salt and increasing fibre-rich grains, pulses, nuts, seeds and whole grains.

Nestlé Health Science - empowering healthier lives through nutrition
Nestlé Health Science offers a wide range of science-based products for people from all walks of life.
Our medical nutrition range is designed to help with the dietary management of health conditions, and includes tube feeds, specialist formulas for children with cows’ milk allergy, as well as food and drink thickeners for those with swallowing difficulties. All of our foods for special medical purposes are for use under medical supervision from a healthcare professional.
You can also buy some of our products online, for those wanting to optimise their day-to-day health.
Meritene
As we age, our dietary needs change, and it can be challenging to stay healthy, active and energetic. Our Meritene range of shakes and soups contains protein and up to 21 vitamins and minerals to provide extra nutrition when you need it most.
- Iron, Zinc, Vitamins B2, B6, B12 to reduce tiredness and fatigue
- Proteins to maintain muscle mass and bones
- Vitamin D and Calcium to contribute to the maintenance of bones
- Iron and Zinc to help support the immune system.
Peptamen
Peptamen offers the widest range of specialist 100% whey peptide tube feed formulas available. Peptamen has over 30 years of experience in helping to meet patients’ nutritional needs, especially for those who struggle to digest and absorb ‘standard’ tube feeds. Peptamen uses a type of whey protein that is broken down into smaller sizes called peptides – these are easier for the body to digest and absorb, and can be gentler on the stomach, compared to whole proteins commonly found in ‘standard’ feeds.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Mothers should be encouraged to continue breastfeeding even when their babies have cows' milk protein allergy. This usually requires qualified dietary counselling to completely exclude all sources of cows' milk protein from the mothers’ diet. If a decision to use a special formula intended for infants is taken, it is important to follow the instructions on the label. Unboiled water, unboiled bottles or incorrect dilution can make babies ill. Incorrect storage, handling, preparation and feeding can eventually lead to adverse effects on the health of babies. Formula for special medical purposes intended for infants must be used under medical supervision.
Nestlé Nutrition - nurturing babies and toddlers and supporting their parents
Since our start in a pharmacy in 1867, we have been innovators. The strength and credibility of our research means a lot to us and we use our size and scale to invest significant time, money and expertise into research. From our Research and Development Centre in Askeaton, Ireland, we develop and test new milk-based maternal and infant nutrition products.

Pro Plan LiveClear – 47% less allergens*
After more than a decade of research, our scientists at Purina developed the first safe and effective cat food that reduces allergens by an average of 47%. All cats produce the allergen Fel d1, in their saliva.
But, when they eat LiveClear, a protein sourced from eggs binds to the Fel d1, neutralising it**. When fed daily, LiveClear significantly reduces the allergens in cat hair and dander. It can help as many as one in five adults and countless cat-owning households worldwide to better enjoy interactions with the cats they love.
