Eggs-citing news! Orange Smarties are back this springtime

Back to Press releases

Fans of Orange SMARTIES will be delighted to hear that Nestlé is bringing back their favourite sweets this spring following the overwhelming consumer response to the launch of the Orange SMARTIES Giant Tube last autumn.

Hexatubes made up entirely of Orange SMARTIES are now available in limited edition in Asda and across the wholesale and convenience stores.

What’s more, fans of Orange SMARTIES can now enjoy their favourite orange treat as an Easter egg which features a delicious orange flavour milk chocolate egg filled with Orange SMARTIES Mini Eggs inside.

Also brand new this spring are Orange SMARTIES Mini Eggs which are quite literally, little Orange SMARTIES chocolate eggs. Very eggs-citing!

Alex Gonnella, Marketing Director for Nestlé’s UK confectionery business at Nestlé said:

“Orange SMARTIES are so popular that we simply had to bring them back this season.

“People love their distinctive flavour and they are our number one consumer request. The giant tubes launched last autumn were sold out in some stores within a few weeks from the launch and we have been inundated with requests from people all over the country asking us whether they could still get hold of some.

“Orange SMARTIES are slightly more difficult to manufacture in high volume, given the different process and recipe required to get that orange-y taste but our experts have been hard at work to make it happen and we are really pleased that we can offer them again this spring.”

Unique to the UK and Ireland, Orange SMARTIES are the only SMARTIES that have their own flavour - with the shell infused with natural orange oil to give it its distinctive taste and they have been a huge hit.

At the last year’s launch of the Orange SMARTIES Giant Tube consumers were sharing their delight on social media tweeting: “Thanks Nestlé I’ve been waiting years for a whole tube of orange SMARTIES”, “Hearing that Nestlé is making SMARTIES tubes filled with just the orange ones has got to be the best news of 2017” and “Nestlé have made my day, no week, no YEAR! #orangesmarties”.

Fans should move quickly as the limited run is expected to sell out fast so it is worth getting your favourite Easter treats early to avoid disappointment.

Chocolate covered in a sugared shell is one of the oldest forms of chocolate sweet in the world. The name SMARTIES has been around since 1937 when Rowntree’s renamed a product that had previously been known as Chocolate Dragée or Chocolate Beans.

SMARTIES remain incredibly popular to this day and their array of vibrant colours have been manufactured without artificial flavours or colouring ever since 2006.

Orange SMARTIES are not the only treat that Nestlé is unleashing this spring.

Within the 2018 Nestlé confectionery seasonal portfolio there is a product for everyone from its range of iconic, well-loved brands; from the fun and playful MILKYBAR and ROWNTREE’S Eggs to the more traditional KITKAT, ROLO and AERO Eggs.
