Nestlé UK & Ireland is celebrating after it picked up the Diet and Health award for its Garden Gourmet range at the prestigious FDF (Food and Drink Federation) Awards 2022.

The awards, which celebrate excellence and innovation in the food and drink industry, took place at The Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on Tuesday 29th November 2022. Renowned restaurant critic, Jay Rayner, presented the awards on the evening.

Anna Collins, Nutrition Manager for Food & Dairy and Nestlé Professional and Student Nutritionist, Kate Beall, collected the award.

Speaking after the event, Anna said: “I’m honoured to collect this award on behalf of my team who have worked incredibly hard to ensure that Garden Gourmet has strong nutrition credentials whilst also appealing to a wide range of consumers. Nestlé’s intention was to develop a range of plant-based products that appeal to everyone, from flexitarians through to vegans. We're proud to say that every product in the range is high in protein, provides a source of fibre and has no red front of pack labelling traffic lights.”

Garden Gourmet, Nestlé's next generation of meat alternatives, was launched in UK supermarkets in September last year. The range provides versatile meat substitutes for food lovers looking to reduce their meat intake but not wanting to compromise on taste. All Garden Gourmet products have been carefully developed by chefs and nutritionists. The Garden Gourmet Sensational range consists of the vegan Sensational Burger and Sausage, vegetarian Smoked Ham Style Slices and a range of vegan chicken style products, including Chicken Style Pieces, Chicken Style Breaded Mini Fillets, and Chicken Style Chargrilled Bites.

In addition to supermarkets, Garden Gourmet is also available to caterers and food service industry through Nestlé Professional. The Garden Gourmet Sensational Burger and the Garden Gourmet Cumberland Sausage are served at 800 Premier Inn hotels and their 400 associated Whitbread restaurants on both their breakfast menu and as a plant-based alternative to the sausage & mash in selected restaurants.

Nestlé was also shortlisted for three other awards this year. Its Virtual School Trips platform was shortlisted for Education Initiative. The Smarties transition from plastic to paper packaging was shortlisted for the Sustainable Packaging Initiative, and Nestlé Confectionery was also shortlisted for Campaign of the Year for its KITKAT X HEADSPACE: Augmented Reality Break Experience.
