Nestlé UK & Ireland has ranked second in this year’s Better Food Index which looks at the social, environmental and economic performance of the UK’s 30 largest food companies.

Tortoise Media’s Better Food index is a ranking of the performance of the UK’s largest food companies, based on their impact on the health of people and the planet. It tracks the progress of the top 30 largest food and drink producers in the UK across five key pillars: Environment, Nutrition, Social Impact, Affordability and Financial Sustainability.

Emphasising the importance of transparent and comprehensive reporting, Tortoise says the aim is to encourage companies to reveal their true impact, and to fuel a data-driven race to the top.

Dorothée Heinze, Head of Public Affairs for Nestlé UK & Ireland, said: “We are pleased to have retained a top three position in the Better Food Index. It reflects the hard work of the driving force within Nestlé to develop food, drink and nutrition products that are healthier and more sustainable, and our focus on net zero and transparency.”
