Cameron Sealby
Meet Cameron Sealby, one of our Manufacturing Apprentices who has chosen to combine practical experience with continued development as he works towards a Level 3 Technical Operator apprenticeship.
When I was leaving Sixth Form, there was a lot of emphasis on leavers continuing into higher education, but it didn't really sit right with me. After speaking with a careers advisor, I found that my interests were more aligned with hands on experience.
I applied to Nestlé, knowing its history and some of its famous brands. It makes me very proud to be able to tell people I work with such a recognisable company. And it offered opportunities I never would have found elsewhere in the area.
No more first day jitters
Initially I was a little nervous about joining a team and taking part in factory work, but I quickly felt at home and now spend my days supporting operators across the factory, working together to ensure daily improvements are made, while feeling part of a bigger team that constantly strives for excellence.
Seeing the training come to fruition
My skills have developed so that now, rather than just seeing a problem and fixing it, I can predict problems before they arise and put things in place to prevent them from happening.
One of the biggest moments across my time with Nestlé was helping to quickly address a machine calibration issue which ran the risk of wasting ingredients and ultimately losing money for the company. I was able to quickly identify the problem and take steps to ensure it wouldn't happen again, making sure we could keep an accurate eye on operations and keep the team’s blood pressure down!
Why choose an apprenticeship?
For me, an apprenticeship has meant the chance to continue my own personal development, while also being able to gain hands-on experience. It's the opportunity to work beyond education and earn money while still having the opportunity to expand your knowledge.
For anyone looking to challenge themselves beyond test scores, an apprenticeship is a chance to stretch yourself and really get a feel for the working world.
