World champion diver climbs to new heights to help launch national summer sports campaign to get families active for free

Before jetting out to China to defend his World Championship crown later this week Team Nestlé member and World Champion diver Tom Daley took some time-out to launch Nestlé‘s Get Set, Go Free campaign, encouraging families to try out a range of activities for free this summer.

To mark the launch Tom has taken part in some activities himself including a tennis lesson with his mum, Debbie, and trying climbing and scuba diving for the first time. Today Tom was climbing on a special Get Set, Go Free climbing wall in London’s Potters Fields. “That was awesome, everyone should give it a go if they have a chance. It’s only my second time climbing but I enjoyed every minute of it. It’s easy to pick up and the instructors are on hand to help you if you need it. You get a pretty good view from up there as well! ” commented Daley.

It is just over a decade since Tom took his first dive from a board and he hasn’t looked back since taking the diving world by storm “I was so fortunate to find a sport that I loved at a young age. You just never know which sports you will enjoy until you give them a go.” said Daley. “Get Set, Go Free is perfect for doing just that. It gives you the chance to go out and try something totally new this summer and you’re certainly not short on options.”

Nestlé is offering families the chance to try out 27 different activities for free at more than 5,000 venues across the UK and ROI. With activities ranging from swimming, horse-riding, golf, climbing and snowboarding , the Get Set, Go Free promotion gives families the opportunity to attend a free activity session or lesson.

2011 promises to be Nestlé’s biggest ever Get Set, Go Free campaign. Families can take part by collecting points on a wide range of Nestlé family favourites across seven categories including cereals, yogurt, water, biscuits, Nesquik®, coffee and confectionery on promotional packs available in July and August. Products include Nestlé Pure Life® water, Nescafé Original®, Ski yogurts®, Cheerios®, Smarties® and Nesquik®.

The promotion is backed by Team Nestlé, which alongside Tom, includes Olympic legend Sir Matthew Pinsent, as well as Olympic rowing Gold medallist Pete Reed, leading British wheelchair athlete Shelly Woods and swimming sensation Fran Halsall. Twenty years after his first major rowing title, Pinsent is now a family man with three young children and sees the benefits of engaging in family sporting activities. “I am a huge fan of bringing the family together through sport. My parents were always keen to encourage me to be active and I took part in a wide range of activities before focusing on rowing. Get Set, Go Free offers families great value for money, giving them a fantastic opportunity to spend time together while trying out new activities all for free this summer.”

Exclusive video footage of Tom trying out various sports can be viewed on the Facebook page and lookout for Tom starring in the Nestlé’ Get Set, Go Free TV campaign airing for the first time on 18th July.
