Following the announcement of Nestlé SA’s 2010 first quarter sales Paul Grimwood, Chief Executive Nestlé UK & Ireland said:
“In what continues to be a challenging environment we made a strong start to the year, with good results across all categories in our business.
“We are excited to be expanding Nestlé’s presence in the UK. We are pleased to announce 73 new jobs will be created at our site in York as we establish a new Customer Relationship Centre for Nespresso our premium coffee business.
“This month we also welcomed the globally successful Jenny Craig weight management business, an important step in expanding our UK food and nutrition portfolio.”
Other highlights:
- In confectionery, we had a good Easter, with sales of Easter eggs and chocolates up 32% on last year. Our ROWNTREE’S® brand continues to perform very well, up 9.6% on the same period in 2009, after the launch of ROWNTREE’S® Randoms™ last summer. AERO® is also performing well, up 6.2%. - NESCAFÉ® continues to benefit from huge media spend through the ongoing Coffee at its Brightest™ campaign. NESCAFÉ® Original, the UK’s favourite coffee, was up 6% versus the same period in 2009. (IRI to 27.03.10)
- Seventy three new jobs will be created at the Nestlé site in York over a 3-year period as Nespresso, the iconic premium coffee business, establishes its Customer Relationship Centre there. The Nespresso business grew by 35.5% in Britain during 2009.
