Nestlé offers expanding portfolio of products and delicious recipes to support followers of Veganuary

Back to Press releases

Nestlé UK & Ireland is supporting Veganuary 2021 with a growing range of vegan friendly products and an exciting selection of vegetarian and dairy free recipes to help people who are choosing to follow flexitarian and vegan diets.

Last year, Nestlé introduced Carnation Vegan Condensed Milk Alternative - a game changer for those who wish to bake dairy free goods.  The alternative condensed milk is made from a blend of oat and rice flour and is certified by the Vegan Society as being suitable for anyone who is following a vegan diet. Carnation Vegan is available at retailers including Ocado, Waitrose, Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

What’s more, for bakers seeking added inspiration this Veganuary, a selection of mouth-watering vegan friendly recipes including banoffee pie, vanilla fudge, chocolate brownies, key lime pie  and salted caramel millionaires shortbread, are available now on the Carnation website.

Assistant Brand Manager Daniela Campanaro said: "Thanks to our new Carnation Vegan Condensed Milk Alternative, it is no longer a challenge for vegans to find suitable alternatives to make caramel-based sweets treats or desserts, without having to compromise on taste, texture or appearance. Carnation Vegan has a very simple taste with a hint of lightly toasted oats, which makes it very versatile for a wide variety of baking and sweet treats."

Sweet treats

Another new arrival in 2020 was the vegan friendly recipe for the entire Rowntree’s Fruit Pastilles range. Nestlé technicians trialled over 30 recipes before arriving at the new formulation, which has removed the gelatine while ensuring the sweets retain the fruity flavour and iconic chew they are famous for. Both Carnation Vegan and Rowntree’s Fruit Pastilles have been nominated for Best New Product Launch 2020 at the Vegan Food & Living Reader Awards 2021.

Nestlé’s range of vegan friendly confectionery also includes the classic mint with a hole Polo, which is made with vegan friendly ingredients in original, spearmint and sugar-free formats; and Rowntree’s Jelly Tots. Meanwhile, Nestlé’s healthier snacking range of YES! fruit bars also has two vegan friendly variants: raspberry and chia seeds and pineapple and coconut – and the delicious bars come wrapped in recyclable paper packaging.

In 2019, Nescafé, the UK biggest coffee brand, launched Nescafé Gold dairy alternative lattes in oat, coconut and almond variants. Nescafé Gold dairy alternative lattes are available in most major supermarkets across the UK and Ireland. The almond, oat and coconut lattes are all certified by the Vegan Society as suitable for people following a vegan diet and carry the sunflower trademark on pack.

On the go

Nestlé Professional, who works with caterers and the food service industry, developed recipe playbooks from Garden Gourmet to inspire pubs and restaurants to include more plant based and vegan options on their menus.

Subway UK uses Nestlé Professional’s Garden Gourmet brand as the sole provider of vegan ‘meatballs’ in their hugely popular ‘Meatless Meatball Marinara,’ which launched in January 2020 and is available in Subway stores across the UK. Recently, the ‘Meatless Meatball Marinara’ claimed the top spot at PETA’s annual Vegan Food Awards in the Best Vegan Sandwich category.

Nestlé offers a range of vegan friendly cereals, including Low Sugar Oat Cheerios, Shredded Wheat Original, Bitesize, Orchard Fruits, Summer Fruits, Cherry Bakewell and Apple Crumble varieties; Shreddies, Harvest Home Corn Flakes and Go Free Rice Pops.
