York welcomed a life-sized, hand-crafted Formula 1® inspired chocolate car to the historic home of KitKat.
The masterpiece arrived in the city following its big reveal last week by former racing driving and F1® commentator, Billy Monger at legendary British racetrack, Silverstone.
The giant chocolate car, which measures an impressive five metres in length, two metres in width and weighs around 350kg, captivated visitors as it went on display at St Helen’s Square, York.
Scott Coles, Managing Director for Nestlé Confectionery in the UK and Ireland, said: “We’re incredibly proud to bring this spectacular F1® inspired chocolate car home to York, the birthplace of KitKat. This city has been at the heart of our brand for generations and sharing such a unique celebration of creativity and craftsmanship with the community means a great deal to us, as does our partnership with Formula 1®.”
Crafted over 1,254 hours and led by master chocolatier, Jen Lindsey-Clark, the car is equal to the equivalent of more than 16,900 two-finger KitKats. Every inch of the car has been meticulously sculpted with precision and artistry.
York is also the home of Nestlé’s R&D Centre, a global hub for innovation in confectionery. Visitors who came to see the car were able to try KitKat’s new limited-edition miniature replica chocolate car, now available nationwide. Featuring a smooth milk chocolate shell with chocolatey filling and embedded crispy cereal pieces, the product showcases that world-class R&D expertise and precision manufacturing.
The giant creation was brought to life to mark the start of the F1® season and in celebration of KitKat’s partnership with Formula 1®. KitKat is now the official chocolate bar of Formula 1® and the partnership brings the action closer to both KitKat and F1 fans by delivering immersive fan experiences through trackside visibility, social media engagement, exclusive merchandise, in-store activations, prize promotions and limited-edition products.
