Christmas gifting to start early this year, new survey finds

  • Almost three quarters (72%) of Brits say they value the time spent with friends and family much more since the pandemic began
  • 50% say they will spend more time searching for thoughtful gifts this year

The pandemic, lockdowns and separation from family and friends have significantly changed our attitudes and habits toward gifting others, new research** from chocolate brand Aero® Bliss has revealed.

Almost three quarters of the nation (72%) say they value the time spent with friends and family more than ever before, as we place extra importance on “everyday” moments such as eating a meal together or watching television (64%).

Released today, the research finds that while Christmas will likely feel different this year, we’ll be using the lockdown to plan ahead and be less last-minute with our shopping, as 47% of us plan to start gift hunting earlier. Half the population (50%) agrees they will put more time and effort into choosing thoughtful presents that friends and family will love, as opposed to leaving it until the last minute and panic buying, which is usually the case for over a quarter of Brits (27%).

With less than six weeks until the big day itself, we’d usually be preparing for the party season and trips to Santa’s grotto. However, there are still ways to build up some festive cheer, and almost two thirds of Brits (62%) agree that Christmas shopping helps them to get into the holiday spirit.
