Nestlé took part in The Micklegate Run Soapbox Challenge this Bank Holiday Monday (26 August 2019) to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support. The day saw 38 teams battle it out in homemade carts to win a range of prizes including; “Best Design”, “Joker of the Day” and “Overall Winner”.

Tom Bamber, Tony Turner and Chris Lister were the pioneers of Nestlé’s KitKart. The team received support from KitKat to partake in The Soapbox Challenge for the second year and it took over a month to construct the cart.

This was the fourth year of The Soapbox Challenge in York. The track started outside Micklegate Bar and finished near the River Ouse. Local businesses were heavily involved in the event and showcased food and drink throughout the day. There was also a fun fair and Super Car Display for attendees.

Tom Bamber, KitKat 4 & Wafer Engineer at Nestlé UK and Ireland said: “We were very nervous at the start of the day having finished 12th in 2018 with a time of 43 seconds. This year we had an 8 second improvement with a time of 35.5 seconds, good enough for 10th. It feels great to be the fastest driver in York Factory.”
