Lia's winning trailer design hits the road

trailer design competition

An 11-year-old girl from York has seen her drawings come to life after winning the Nestlé Design a Lorry competition open to employees' children.

As the results of the competition were announced at the Nestlé Supply Chain team's summer family fun event on Sunday, what Lia did not know was that her lorry design had already been made a reality, and she was surprised to see it driven onto the York site.

This year's competition theme was sustainability, and the winning design features the three Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle, plus an illustration of the planet with a smiley face.

The finished road trailer will go on to be used by Nestlé to transport food and beverage products across the UK and Ireland. It will be towed by one of Nestlé's bio-LNG fuel trucks, which emit up to 95% less carbon than traditional diesel trucks.

Nestlé employees' children were encouraged to submit their designs to a panel of judges from across the business, including Head of Sustainability, Dr. Emma Keller, Operations Senior Communications Manager, Sara Fisher, and Regeneration Lead, Matt Ryan. The entries were judged on creativity and incorporation of the sustainability theme. All entrants received a miniature toy version of the lorries decorated with their designs.

Richard Hastings, Head of Logistics at Nestlé UK and Ireland, said: "We were very impressed by the quality of entries this year for our Design a Lorry competition. The winning design by Lia was a brilliantly drawn illustration and had a great message to reduce, reuse, and recycle that will now be seen all over the country. Congratulations to Lia and all the entrants for creating some fantastic trailer designs."
