Vicky Woods, Managing Director for Nestlé Nutrition in the UK and Ireland, has published an open letter to parents after the recent recall of some SMA products.
In the letter, Vicky explains why the recall was necessary and apologises for the disruption and uncertainty caused. The recall notice was issued on 5th January 2026 because of a quality issue with a supplied ingredient. You can find more information on the recall here.
Vicky's letter to parents is reproduced below.
Dear Parent,
On behalf of the whole SMA team, I want to say how sorry we are for the disruption and uncertainty caused by the recent recall of some of our products.
We take our responsibility to families and babies seriously. Our care for families and infants is the reason we all come to work every day, and we pride ourselves on being there for you when you need us.
As you know, we recently found that one of the ingredients supplied to us was not of the right quality and did not meet the standards we require. The safety and wellbeing of babies is our highest priority. That means we cannot accept a product that is anything less than perfect and we can only apologise that some of our products fell below those exceptionally high standards. In these circumstances, taking the precaution of recalling all potentially affected products is the right thing to do.
I want to assure you that the rigorous testing which brought this issue to light is being stepped up even further and we are restoring supply as quickly as we possibly can.
You can be sure that my team and I are working relentlessly to deliver for you and your families, and to make sure that our high standards are maintained now and in the future.
If you have any questions or concerns then you can speak to our Careline team on 0800 081 81 80 (UK) or 1800 931 832 (Ireland) and if you have any health concerns on behalf of your baby, please contact a healthcare professional as they can support every family’s unique circumstances.
Sincerely,
Vicky Woods – Managing Director, Nestlé Nutrition, UK & Ireland
