Team Buxton to run miles for Mind at the London Marathon

On Sunday 27 April, more than 50,000 runners will hit the streets of London to conquer a marathon of a lifetime. What's one of the most important things you need to remember whilst running. Keep hydrated, of course! For the last twelve years, Buxton has proudly served as the official bottled water provider and longstanding partner of the TCS London Marathon.

As the world's largest annual one-day fundraising event, the London Marathon brings people together for many incredible causes. As in previous years, Buxton has created a special team of runners and continues to support them as they prepare for this ultimate test of resilience. The team is raising funds for mental health charity, Mind, which Buxton has partnered with to champion better physical and mental wellbeing across the nation through promoting exercise and hydration.

We caught up with ten of our amazing Team Buxton runners to hear their inspiring stories and motivations for taking on this monumental challenge and supporting Mind.

Abigail Meyrick, Sustainability Manager

"If you had asked me three years ago to run a marathon, I would have swiftly declined! However, after witnessing my friends, family members, and other inspirational individuals achieve remarkable sporting feats, I realised it was time to step out of my comfort zone and taken on a new challenge.

"Fast forward to today, the London Marathon will be the second marathon I compete in, and my first ever major marathon. Living in Wales, the training hasn't always been sunshine and rainbows, quite the opposite actually, steep hills and what feels like relentless rain at times. Nevertheless, knowing that I'm running for such a worthy cause, helping support the great work that Mind are doing throughout the UK, makes every mile and blister worth it."

Ceren Kurt, Consumer Experience Lead

"I was never a runner! But this year, I wanted to set myself a challenge. A challenge that will bring dedication, passion and discipline. Buxton, as one of the brands I work with in Nestlé Waters & Premium Beverages UK, has a wonderful partnership with Mind. I take pride in being part of a brand dedicated to helping the mental and physical wellbeing of the nation. Having gone through major panic attack episodes and being neurodivergent, I understand the impact that mental health can have on our lives.

"My aim is to raise funds for Mind, but I also want to support Turkish stray animals through Türkiye Mozaik Foundation. Since I was a little kid, I have been loving, feeding, helping and rehoming stray dogs in Türkiye. Raising money for them will give me such power whilst running the marathon. While I don't want to be presumptuous in asking for double donations, my wish is to support both causes. I would like to give half of my donations to Mind and the other half to the Türkiye Mozaik Foundation. Thank you so much for your support."

Tom Davies, Category Demand Planner

"I am proud to be running the London Marathon with Team Buxton to raise money and awareness for the incredible charity, Mind. This cause is especially meaningful to me as I lost my little sister, Sophie, to suicide last year after she struggled with mental health issues for many years. Her journey highlighted the importance of having access to the right support, and I want to honour her memory by advocating for the vital work that Mind does in helping individuals navigate their mental health challenges.

"Running alongside my sister-in-law, Dani, adds a personal touch to this experience. Together, we share the motivation to push ourselves beyond our comfort zones whilst supporting each other through the training and the marathon itself. By participating in this marathon, we aim to make a meaningful impact and raise funds that will support Mind's essential mission."

Daniela Campanaro, Brand Manager

"As the Buxton Brand Manager, I am thrilled to be able to showcase our commitment to helping promote physical and mental health through exercise and hydration. By partnering with Mind, we are able to contribute to the important work they do in providing support and resources for those struggling with mental health issues.

"This race holds a deeply personal meaning for  me. I a running alongside my brother-in-law, who tragically lost his sister to suicide last year. I want to honour Sophie's memory by raising awareness and funds for mental health support. By running the marathon, we aim to bring attention to the importance of mental health and the need for accessible resources and support for those who are struggling. Through Buxton's collaboration with Mind, we can make a difference in the lives of individuals who, like my brother-in-law's sister, may be silently battling their own mental health challenges.

"Also, this is a huge personal challenge for me as I am not a natural runner but I'm excited to truly live and breathe my brand and its purpose. Showing that normal people can do extraordinary things."

Ben Parker, Inbound Supply Co-Ordinator

"Running the London Marathon this year has been a life goal of mine ever since I started running at a young age. Having watched family and friends run it in the past, I can't wait to take in the amazing atmosphere everyone talks about. Running for me is a way of clearing my mind and focusing on myself.

"Having had mental health problems in the past, running was always the one sport that took my mind off everything. Therefore, raising money for a fantastic charity like Mind means the world to me. This will be my first ever marathon, which does fill me with a lot of nerves, but having all my family and friends there to support me will help me push through."

Neil Bothamley, Logistics Planning Executive

"I have always wanted to run the London Marathon since I was about 16 years old. Obviously, life gets in the way and all that, so I had to put it off. It was only in recent years that my wife had encouraged me to go for it. After two unsuccessful years in the ballot, I decided to ask about at Nestlé as I knew we put in a team. Finally, I managed to get in which was great.

"The fact that we will be running for and raising money for Mind is great too. I have had mental health issues for a long tie now and have to deal with them every day. So, I fully support the work that Mind does as I know what it's like to struggle."

Sarah Healy, Counsel

"I've always wanted to run a marathon and I'm so excited that my first one will be the London Marathon, it's such an iconic race. I've been entering the ballot for years, so I feel very lucky to finally get a place and be able to take part.

"I started running (often reluctantly) in cross country races when I was in school, but over time, I've grown to really enjoy it. It's a great way to switch off and get some fresh air before work.

"Taking part in the London Marathon has also been a fantastic opportunity to raise money for Mind, a charity that does such important work for mental health. I'm incredibly grateful to my friends, family and colleagues who've been so generous in supporting this cause."

Rob Fisher, Senior Technician

"I am running the London Marathon because it represents not only a personal challenge and an opportunity to test my limits, but also a chance to support a cause that is meaningful. It is giving me the opportunity to experience the vibrant atmosphere of one of the world's most iconic races.

"This will be my first marathon, and the training has been tougher than I ever imagined. I'd like to personally thank the Buxton team and Full Potential coaching for all the support and guidance throughout the whole journey."

Samuel Mayes, Category Development Lead

"I was inspired to apply for the London Marathon, having volunteered at last year's event and experiencing the incredible atmosphere and comradery of the runners helping each other to accomplish their own goals.

"This is a bucket list marathon and although the training has been hard through the winter, taking part in what will be a record-breaking London Marathon, with more than 56,000 runners, and raising money for the incredible charity Mind has made the training miles feel that little bit easier!"

Matthew Hay, Sales Graduate

"I'm a passionate runner who loves a challenge. This will be my second marathon in just two months, and I only have six weeks to retrain for the London Marathon.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to push my limits while raising funds for Mind, a wonderful charity that is very close to my heart."
