The 1st October marks the start of Anaphylaxis Awareness Week (1st to 7th October), where the world gets talking about anaphylaxis and serious allergies.
As a provider of nutritional solutions for allergy requirements, Nestlé Health Science has partnered with Anaphylaxis UK to help raise awareness of the consequences of serious allergies, empower people with the right knowledge and build confidence to help safely manage allergies.
An allergy is where your body reacts to something that is normally harmless like cow’s milk protein and other food protein, pollen or dust. The symptoms can be mild, but for some people they can be very serious.
Occasionally they can cause serious allergic symptoms that come on suddenly, such as swelling in the mouth or throat, wheezing, cough, shortness of breath, and difficult, noisy breathing – this is known as anaphylaxis.
The annual Anaphylaxis Awareness Week is hosted by Anaphylaxis UK, a UK wide charity supporting people and families for almost 30 years. They provide evidence based resources, including allergen specific factsheets, support through a national anaphylaxis helpline, and training with their comprehensive AllergyWise® online courses.
During the week, Anaphylaxis UK will be sharing information and resources for individuals, healthcare professionals, schools, and businesses to help create a safer environment and brighter future for people living with serious allergies.
Simon Williams, Chief Executive of Anaphylaxis UK, says: “Anaphylaxis Awareness Week is the perfect time to spread awareness and educate people on anaphylaxis, so we can create a safer environment and instil more confidence in people affected by serious allergies.
“With Nestlé Health Science sponsoring our event this year, we’ve been able to reach a much larger audience than ever before which will allow us to spread key safety messages about anaphylaxis to the wider public.”
Nestlé Health Science is committed to supporting healthcare professionals, patients and caregivers in caring for infants and young children with CMA Cows’ milk allergy (CMA).
Hebbah Hussein, Brand Manager – Allergy at Nestlé Health Science, said: “At Nestlé Health Science, we are committed to making a difference to the lives of patients who suffer from Cow's Milk Allergy and their families. This year, we are excited to be able to amplify Anaphylaxis UK’s important message and spreading greater awareness of the measures that need to be in place to support those with allergies.”
