I have been in my role as Head of Intermarket Supply for 18 months but have worked in Nestlé Supply Chain for 18 years. I am responsible for ensuring the delivery of all import and export stock for Nestlé UK and Ireland in the most efficient and compliant way. I love working in Supply Chain because every day is different – you also have to think on your feet and there is always an opportunity to learn and grow.

You've had a varied career in Supply Chain, an industry that's typically male-dominated. What's been your secret to success?

In the roles I have had in Supply Chain, I have always had an appetite for learning, being curious and inquisitive about how things work and how they can be improved. Making a difference in every role I go into, putting people first and delivering results are my passion and I hope I have delivered on that!

How have women encouraged you in your operations roles at Nestlé?

I spent the first years of my career in Customer Services (now Customer Solutions). After four years of working in there across two roles, I wasn't sure what to do next. My line manager at the time really encouraged me to think bigger and pushed me out of my comfort zone, which led to me relocating and moving into a role in Customer Facing Supply Chain, working collaboratively with our Commercial team on our biggest customer, Tesco. Had it not been for that encouragement and the belief in me from her, I'm not sure I would have had such a lengthy and varied career in Supply Chain – supporting and challenging others in their careers and ambitions is so important.

It's worth saying that in an environment more typically male-dominated, I have also had great support from male colleagues and line managers. Support and allyship for my career development and progression has been incredibly important in shifting the dial on gender balance within Supply Chain.

How have you supported or mentored women at Nestlé?

I am a big advocate of flexible working and have been very supportive of this within my team – it's been a great enabler for continued career development whilst managing work-life blend for a number of women that I work with. I also encourage them not to have limiting beliefs, for example, being apologetic for managing their working hours effectively, or thinking they can't progress in their career due to family commitments. Instead, I encourage them to find the optimal balance whilst continuing to pursue their career. There isn't a one size fits all career template - it's about supporting them in whatever way I can to ensure they achieve what they set out to do.
