Do you test your products on animals?

The development of conventional food and drink products, such as coffee, tea, cereal and chocolate, does not involve animal tests.

However, all regulatory authorities rely on animal testing, as part of the dossier, to demonstrate that novel foods, or foods that contain novel ingredients, are safe for consumption. Therefore, Nestlé uses animal testing when authorisation to commercialise food with novel ingredients requires this type of testing.

In these cases we adhere to the internationally recognised “Triple R” principles to ensure that any animal tests are only used where necessary and that the highest standards of animal care are applied. The Three Rs are: Replace (use an alternative to animal testing wherever possible), Reduce (the number of studies involving animal testing) and Refine (evolve the experimental procedures to reduce and suppress suffering and discomfort of animals).
