Nestlé UK employees bring in £200k for Macmillan Cancer Support

Back to Press releases

Nestlé employees from across the UK have teamed together to fundraise more than £200,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support in just 18 months.

Staff from across Nestlé’s UK sites raced towards the total with a host of fundraising activities and initiatives ranging from bake sales, charity balls and raffles to more daring endeavours in the UK’s great outdoors.

49 brave fundraisers took part in this year’s Macmillan’s Mighty Hikes, a challenging walking marathon, and added £22,500 to the pot while Charity Balls in Tutbury, York and Halifax brought in even more cash for the charity. There have been bike rides, marathons, 10k runs and triathlons undertaken by Nestlé employees across the UK, all of which have raised valuable funds through individual sponsorship.

In Halifax, an 18 strong team cycled the 170-mile ‘Way of the Roses’ coast to coast route and raised £11,000 while everyone at Nestlé has been involved in Macmillan’s famous World’s Biggest Coffee Morning which has raised more than £22,000 over the two years.

More recently, employees from all of Nestlé sites, including Nestlé UK & Ireland CEO, Stefano Agostini, have been cycling the distance to Lapland on static bikes and other festive activities have included a Christmas jumper day and an end of year raffle.

Stefano Agostini said: “It makes me very proud to see what has been achieved across Nestlé here in the UK in the name of Macmillan Cancer Support.

“This charity means a lot to everybody here and our employees have not disappointed in their effort and willingness to get involved. To raise £200,000 in such a short space of time is a huge achievement and I congratulate our teams across the country. There’ll be more to come in 2018!”

Hannah Hickman and Nuala Blackshaw from the Macmillan partnership team said: “A huge thank you to everyone at Nestlé for a raising an incredible £200,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Together, you are continuing to make a difference to the lives of people living with cancer across the UK.”

Funds raised go directly to Macmillan with £2,365 being enough to fund a Macmillan Support Worker for one month, £48 helping to run a large information and support centre for an hour and £28 paying for a Macmillan Nurse for one hour. Nestlé UK’s partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support began in 2016 and will continue into 2018.
