Nestlé wins Responsible Business Award for Environmental Sustainability

bitc awards 2018 winner

Nestlé UK and Ireland won the Responsible Business Award for Environmental Sustainability at Business in the Community’s (BITC) 2018 annual ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London this week, which was attended by nearly 1000 business leaders and influencers and hosted by Sir Lenny Henry.

The BITC Responsible Business Awards celebrate the very best in responsible business, and aim to inspire the world to drive positive change.

The Award for Environmental Sustainability recognises businesses that are developing growth models that lead to better use of resources, nurture healthy ecosystems and/or tackle climate change.

We were praised for our work in the area of resource efficiency and emissions reduction, both in-house and along our supply chain; particularly highlighting:

  • 51.25% greenhouse gas emission reduction since 2010
  • 24% improvement in energy efficiency
  • Zero waste business since 2015

Speaking of the award, our CEO Stefano Agostini said: “I’m incredibly proud that Nestlé UK and Ireland won the Environmental Sustainability Award at the Business in the Community Awards. This recognition reflects the hard work going on across Nestlé to confront the environmental challenges we are facing now and in the future.

“Collaboration is the crucial element to achieving success in this area and we need to continue to work across sectors with a strategy that, while allowing for prioritisation, tackles multiple issues at the same time. The opening of our own wind farm in Scotland, which directly benefits the local community and reduces our carbon output, is a great example of this kind of team work. We will continue to work in partnership with others to make a difference for our planet.”

Environmental sustainability is a focus at Nestlé, with our use of renewable technologies across the UK & Ireland and the introduction of our new windfarm in Scotland which will produce enough energy to power 50% of Nestlé’s activities in the UK & Ireland.

Congratulations and well done to everyone at Nestlé who helped make this happen.
