A global initiative with the aim to help families with health and nutrition has been unveiled at Nestlé’s Swiss HQ in Vevey. CEO, Mark Schneider, made the announcement today to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Families and called on others to join the endeavour.

The initiative brings together all of Nestlé’s continued efforts in the development of healthier products and nutritional advice with the aim of helping 50 million children, worldwide, lead healthier lives by 2030.

Activities covered by the initiative include the ongoing transformation of Nestlé’s food and beverage portfolio, promoting the consumption of vegetables, grains, pulses, nuts and seeds as well as work to reduce sugars, salt and saturated fats in products. Sharing nutritional knowledge and offering advice for families is another key area where Nestlé will concentrate its expertise and resources.

Badged as “Nestlé for Healthier Kids” the work behind this initiative can be seen in recent developments across Nestlé’s UK & Irish portfolio including an innovative 30% less sugar Milkybar, bottled water promoting healthy hydration specifically for children and the reduction of more than 60 billion calories and 2.6 billion teaspoons of sugar since 2015.

Stefano Agostini, CEO for Nestlé UK & Ireland said: “Nestlé leads the way in seeing health and well-being as a major priority and we know we can make a big difference through our product portfolio, our employees and the work we do in our communities.

“Our achievements in this area in the UK & Ireland are a great source of pride but there is more we can do, in particular the real innovation that our R&D network can deliver for the future. There are people across our business working on ways we can make our food and drink healthier and promote more and better choices for the families that enjoy our products.”
