TV presenter, Gregg Wallace, has spent three days filming at the home of Nescafé Gold Blend for the latest episode of the successful BBC series, Inside the Factory. The episode will be broadcast tomorrow night (Tuesday, 17 July) on BBC Two.

Gregg and co-presenter, Cherry Healey, were given special, behind the scenes access following the journey of the UK’s number one premium soluble coffee. Gregg will be seen helping to unload the coffee beans as they arrived straight from South America ready for roasting. He then followed all of the freeze dry manufacturing processes including grinding, roasting, and extraction, before getting kitted out in specialist thermal gear to enter the freeze drying room where it was minus 50 degrees. Finally, viewers will see the finished product being packaged and loaded on to the lorry ready for consumers around the world.

Mike Dale, Factory Project Manager said: “Almost all homes have a jar of soluble coffee, but very few know the complexities of how it is made. Gregg and Cherry discovered that it’s a combination of high quality coffee beans, state of the art manufacturing facilities and people who are passionate about coffee that make the perfect cup of Nescafé Gold Blend. Nestlé Tutbury has seen over £350 million of investment to make it a state of the art coffee centre of excellence and we are delighted to provide BBC viewers the opportunity to show the results of that investment.”

Nestlé Tutbury in South Derbyshire is also the home of iconic household brands, such as Nescafé Original and Nescafé Dolce Gusto, producing over 35,000 tonnes of coffee a year with almost 1,000 employees on site.

Now in its fourth series, this is the second time Nestlé has contributed to the Inside the Factory series. Nestlé corporate spokesperson Howard Crosskey commented: “Although it is a big commitment hosting a crew of 15 over three days, we were delighted to welcome Gregg, Cherry and the team back after a successful collaboration for the first series when they visited our KitKat factory in York. There was such a buzz around the site during filming days and Gregg was so supportive with the colleagues who showed him around the factory, relaxing them and putting them at ease.”

Dawn Thompson, Shift Manager in Filling and Packing said: "It was a fantastic experience working with Gregg, he immediately put me at ease whilst on camera and he seemed genuinely fascinated by our factory processes."

The Inside the Factory series is a celebratory look at British manufacturing and other episodes this series include loo roll and curry sauce.
