Nestlé is one of 42 UK businesses that has signed up to a world-first pact with the aim of transforming the plastic packaging system in the UK and to keep plastic in the economy and out of the ocean.

The UK Plastics Pact, launched today by sustainability experts WRAP, is a unique collaboration which brings together businesses from across the entire plastics value chain alongside UK governments and NGOs.

The businesses includes both major food and drink as well as non-food brands, manufacturers and retailers as well as plastic reprocesses and packaging suppliers. Nestlé will join with the other members of the pact to share commitments all with the ambition of reducing the impact of plastic waste around the world.

Stefano Agostini, CEO for Nestlé UK & Ireland said: “We are proud to be founding members of the UK Plastics Pact and believe it clearly demonstrates how seriously Nestlé takes its responsibility to make a difference on this issue. There needs to be action taken and we believe we will achieve real results if we work together, across the full supply chain, to improve the recyclability of plastic in the UK. That’s why this pact will be so valuable.”

Earlier this month, Nestlé announced a global aim to make all of its packaging either recyclable or reusable by 2025.
