New greener Buxton multipack launches

Greener multipack

Buxton natural mineral water has released a new greener multipack in another step towards being made from 100% recycled plastic.

Launching exclusively in Tesco, the 8 x 50cl pack contains 100% recycled plastic (or rPET) bottles encased in film made from 50% recycled PE plastic. The bottles themselves are made from other bottles.

Buxton has already moved 45% of its volumes into 100% rPET bottles and this launch represents another step towards its goal of using 100% rPET bottles across all formats by the end of 2021.

Last year Buxton began a partnership with Biffa, who will recycle PET by collecting and reprocessing PET bottles here in the UK. The partnership will enable Nestlé Waters UK to significantly reduce the amount of virgin plastic in circulation and lead the shift to using high-quality food-grade recycled PET in the UK, which, at the moment, is sourced from Europe.

Buxton’s ultimate ambition is to become carbon neutral in 2023, while parent company Nestlé Waters pledges to follow by 2025. But with water at its core, water stewardship and managing water resources responsibly is also high on the agenda. Working with the local community, Buxton has initiated pioneering water projects designed to care for water, improve water efficiency, as well as protect the water balance in the local area. In March 2021, the site became the first site in the UK to achieve the prestigious Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) standard certification with platinum status, the highest rating possible .

Warren Plaskett, Head of Marketing for Nestlé Waters UK, said: “Buxton has been rising up and overcoming obstacles for thousands of years, and this greener pack launch with Tesco is one more step on our journey toward the ambition of making every Buxton bottle from recycled bottles by the end of the year – an ambition we are proud of and determined to meet.”
