I’m Head of Sustainability at Nestlé UK & Ireland. I’ve been in Nestlé for 3 ½ years now, so a relative baby by Nestlé standards! My career has always been in the sustainability space, working with companies to help them on their sustainability journeys. When the opportunity arose to work for the world’s largest food and drink company in helping Nestlé to operate sustainably and responsibly, I jumped at it! The job is incredibly varied, and there’s always a new challenge to get to grips with, which is great.
Why are balanced teams better for the business?
Balanced teams are so important for companies, because they enable the coming together of a variety of ideas, creativity and different perspectives! The world outside of Nestlé is incredibly diverse. In order for us as a company to stay relevant to our consumers and to our stakeholders, including local communities, we need to ensure that we reflect that diversity on the inside as well.
Who has inspired you either personally or professionally and why?
Throughout my career, I’ve been driven by some comments I remember receiving when I was at high school. I’d just finished my GCSEs and was starting my A-Levels, when I was told by my tutor that the school didn’t expect me to go to university, let alone go very far in my career. These comments lit a fire in me to prove them wrong. To this day, two degrees later and having worked in some amazing places around the world, these words serve to continue to push me forward.
