The guests then met with Keely Laycock, Nestlé Continuous Excellence process apprentice and Tom Merry and Ashley Brogan-Ellis, engineering apprentices who shared their experiences and gave an introduction to the Nestlé Academy and the Youth Employment Initiative. Through the Youth Employment Initiative the company has committed to provide 1,900 job opportunities to young people by 2016 and to offer employability and skills training to young people in local communities close to its sites.

Following the introductions, the guests enjoyed the tour of the facilities and witnessed production of the iconic Christmas favourite Quality Street which launched in 1963 and Easter eggs which production has already started for Easter 2016.

The Bishop of Huddersfield, the Rt Revd Jonathan Gibbs said of the visit:

“I was impressed by my visit to Nestlé's manufacturing site in Halifax today. Nestlé is a major employer in this area and is continuing a long tradition of fine confectionery making in Yorkshire.

“It was especially good to learn more about their major investment in Halifax and about their commitment to offering high quality apprenticeships to young people both here and elsewhere in the UK.”

Holly Lynch MP, MP for Halifax said:

“It was a pleasure to visit one of Halifax’s biggest employers and to sample some of their delicious produce! I was particularly impressed to hear about how their initiatives to boost youth employment and reduce their impact on the environment.

“It’s fantastic that we have Nestlé making confectionery here in Halifax and exporting it all over the world.”
