Olympic legend Sir Matthew Pinsent and World Champion diving sensation Tom Daley have launched the Get Set, Go Free campaign today, encouraging families to try out a range of activities for free this summer. You can hear more from Tom here.
Nestlé is offering families the chance to try out one of 37 different activities for free at more than 4,600 venues. With activities ranging from martial arts, swimming, dancing, paint–balling and scuba diving, the Get Set, Go Free promotion gives families the opportunity to attend a free activity session or lesson. Since 2006, 1.6 million activity sessions have been given away.
Families can take part by collecting points on a wide range of Nestlé family favourites, including Kit Kat®, Cheerios® and Nesquik® on promotional packs available in July and August.
The promotion is backed by Team Nestlé, which includes Tom Daley and Sir Matthew Pinsent, as well as Olympic rowing Gold medallist Pete Reed, leading British wheelchair athlete Shelly Woods and swimming sensation Fran Halsall. Each of the athletes has been trying out new activities with families across the UK to celebrate the launch.
Twenty years since he first stepped into a boat with Steve Redgrave, Pinsent is now a family man with three young children and sees the benefits of engaging in family sporting activities. “I am a huge fan of bringing the family together through sport. My parents were always keen to encourage me to be active and I took part in a wide range of activities before focusing on rowing.”
A government survey released last year showed that almost three quarters of children are not getting 60 minutes of daily activity outside of school. The survey also found that 45 per cent of their kids watched TV or played non–active video games before school, and only 22 per cent did something active after their evening meal.
It is 10 years since Tom Daley took his first dive from a board at just six years old and he hasn’t looked back after taking the diving world by storm. “Mum and Dad first brought me down to the swimming pool at four years old to learn an essential life skill. I then found diving and I am so lucky to do something I love everyday. This promotion is great as it gives you the chance to get to try something totally new.’
Daley marked the occasion by treating a group of parents and children to a beginners diving lesson in Torquay. In the afternoon Daley joined his two brothers to try kitebuggying on the beach, one of the many niche sports on the Get Set, Go Free programme. “That was wicked, you have to give it a go if you get chance,” commented Daley.
Get Set Go Free vouchers can be redeemed on a wide range of Nestlé products and points can be banked online at www.getsetgofree.com where you can choose your activity and venue.
