Healthy hydration

What is the issue?

Water performs crucial roles such as carrying nutrients and waste products between our major organs, helping to regulate body temperature, lubricating our joints and acting as a shock absorber. To keep hydrated at least 2.0 litres of water should be consumed from all sources as part of a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Why is it important?

Through Nestlé Waters, we offer naturally sourced bottled waters to consumers as a healthy choice for hydration, free from sugar or calories. Alongside this, we believe we can play an added value role in society by raising awareness of the importance of drinking both tap and bottled water for a healthier life.

What are we doing about it?

In the UK, we raise awareness by supporting healthy hydration campaigns, and through our partnerships with organisations and initiatives such as the Natural Hydration Council and Project WET.

We are grateful to have such active and supportive members, such as Nestlé Waters, helping us to drive the healthy hydration agenda forwards. We have made real progress since the council was formed in 2008 and the momentum behind this simple message, of drinking more water, continues to grow.

Partnership with the Natural Hydration Council

The Natural Hydration Council (NHC) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to researching the science and communicating the facts about healthy hydration. Nestlé Waters was one of the founder members of this trade association in 2008, which was set up to champion the role of all water whether it be bottled still, sparking or tap. We support its campaigns to raise public awareness of the role water plays in our health and wellbeing.

All NHC members are producers of naturally sourced water. Collectively, they represent more than half of the bottled water category in the UK.

Supporting Project WET

The Project WET Foundation is a global initiative designed to give school teachers the educational tools and resources they need to help children understand and value water. Nestlé Waters has supported Project WET for more than 20 years, and in 2015 we signed a new four-year partnership to continue our support for this organisation.

Sponsoring the London Marathon

In 2015, Buxton Natural Mineral Water was once again the official water of the Virgin Money London Marathon, one of the largest and most prestigious marathon races in the world. As a sponsor, Buxton donates water to all the runners during the marathon at water stations across the course, as well as providing advice and tips on hydration at launch events and in editorials leading up to the big day.

Through sponsorship activities like this, Nestlé Waters can help raise awareness of the importance of healthy hydration in sport and throughout our daily lives.
