Nestle UK Teams Up With Marie Curie Cancer Care

April 23, 2009

Employees aim to raise £250,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care to provide more nursing care at home for terminally ill patients

Marie Curie Cancer Care and Nestlé UK today (April 23) celebrate the launch of their Charity of the Year partnership. The partnership, which runs from May 2009 to April 2010, will see Nestlé UK employees raising vital funds for Marie Curie Nurses who provide free care to patients with terminal cancer and other illnesses in their own homes.

This is the first time Nestlé UK has chosen a company–wide Charity of the Year. Each of Nestlé UK’s divisions has a target, which, if reached, will raise over £250,000 for the charity. Nestlé will top up individual employee fundraising by 20%, aiming to fund 12,500 hours of home nursing care for terminally ill patients and their families in local communities.

Throughout the Charity of the Year partnership, Nestlé employees will be undertaking a whole host of fundraising activities. Activity confirmed so far includes:

– The ‘Nestlé Spring Clean’, the first in a number of recycling initiatives for employees to bring in unwanted goods to be sold in Marie Curie Shops

– A ‘Walk for Hours Challenge’ which will see each Senior Leadership Team member walking 12.5 km in a day to represent the number of hours of Marie Curie nursing care they are hoping to provide

– The Nestlé Good Sports Day, school sports day style events taking place across all Nestlé sites this summer

Thomas Hughes–Hallett, Chief Executive, Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “Marie Curie Cancer Care is working to double the number of people with a terminal illness who are supported to die at home. We’re looking forward to a great year of working with Nestlé. Our partnership will bring lots of exciting opportunities to raise funds for more nursing care at home for terminally ill patients.

“The money raised by Nestlé employees will be spent in local communities across the UK, providing vital care for patients as well as emotional support and advice for their families.”

Paul Grimwood, CEO Nestlé UK and Ireland, said: “Marie Curie Cancer Care was chosen by Nestlé UK employees as their first ever UK–wide Charity of the Year because of the vital service its nurses provide in local communities throughout the UK.

“Marie Curie Nurses provide such wonderful care and support for terminally ill patients and their families that I know our employees will really throw themselves into fundraising. We have lots of activities planned, for the whole company to get involved with, and we’re sure the partnership will be a huge success.”
