FareShare
A national charity, FareShare seeks to alleviate food poverty by redistributing surplus, good quality, in-date food from the food industry to vulnerable people in the community.

Nestlé, along with other major food companies, provides FareShare's network with food ranging from pasta to coffee, chocolate to water. During 2006, the food redistributed from Nestlé to FareShare provided 189,200 meals’ worth of food. On top of this, 176 tonnes less waste went to landfill.

FareShare1st
FareShare1st was created from the need to dispose of surplus food in the most environmentally friendly way. This innovative company provides a one-stop shop for the food industry to redistribute good quality food to FareShare's community network and then through FareShare1st the remaining waste is reused or recycled, via Ron Hull, waste management experts. FareShare1st was developed by FareShare in conjunction with Nestlé, who introduced Ron Hull.
Food unable to be redistributed to FareShare’s community organisations, for reasons such as short shelf life, is processed through the greenest route available, with landfill the very last possible option. This remaining product contains more than food: materials including paper, metal, cardboard, wood & glass are all used in packaging, and all need to be re-used or recycled.
In 2006, through FareShare1st, Nestlé’s surplus stock entering landfill decreased from 100% to just 5%. We hope this will decrease even further in 2007.
