NESTLÉ AND COCOA

Nestlé is committed to improving the livelihoods of cocoa farmers. In West Africa, which produces over 70 percent of the world’s cocoa supply, we are actively working towards a solution that takes into account the complexities of the cocoa supply chain and helps all farmers grow sustainable crops of quality beans that helps to maximise their income.

To strengthen our impact, we work with a range of partners, including international organisations such as the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA); West African governments; and farming networks. This collaboration brings unmatched levels of experience in African agriculture, labour and development to bear on a range of initiatives to help cocoa farmers grow sustainable levels of quality crops. We readily accept that the challenges are many, and the situation complex.  We welcome Fair Trade as one alternative and appreciate the platform it provides for open debate on this subject along side the industry’s efforts to improving the livelihoods of cocoa farmers.
