Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements:

- A nutritious meat & vegetable or fish & vegetable soup is a good source of vitamin B12 (along with other vitamins and minerals).
Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 is needed to process folic acid, it also keeps the nervous system healthy and helps release energy from the food we eat. You should be able to find vitamin B12 virtually in all meat products.
If you are a vegetarian vitamin B12 can be hard to obtain from your diet. Talk to your doctor or midwife about whether you require a vitamin B12 supplement.
Good dietary sources of vitamin B12 are:
- Meat, (don't eat liver or liver products as they may contain a lot of vitamin A. Too much vitamin A could harm your baby)
- Salmon
- Cod
- Dairy products (such as; milk, cheese and yoghurt)
- Eggs (ensure eggs are thoroughly cooked to prevent the risk of salmonella food poisoning)
- Yeast extract
- Fortified breakfast cereals
- Fortified Soya milk
- Fortified textured Soya protein
