INTRODUCTION TO SOLID FOODS

- The introduction of solid foods to a child's diet is known as weaning
About half way through the first year of life, babies begin to outgrow their liquid diet of breastmilk or formula. This liquid diet does not supply them with enough nutrients to support their increased rate of growth and nutritional requirements.
It is at this stage (at around six months) that soft foods are introduced to your baby's diet. This second phase of childhood nutrition is a time of transition, from milk only to soft foods, finger foods and finally to family foods.
This process of transition where solids are introduced into a baby's diet is called weaning.
