FREEZING AND STORING FOODS
Preparing and storing your baby's food is a great way to save yourself some time, and to ensure that your baby has fresh food readily available. You can prepare your baby's food in bulk portions and store away the excess until your baby's next mealtime.
There are many ways to store your baby's food, but only one is completely safe and hygienic:
You can store and freeze your baby food in plastic ice cube trays. Always remember to wash your ice cube trays thoroughly before use.
- Spoon or pour your baby puree food into ice cube trays. Cover with a plastic food bag or cling film, label and then store in the freezer for future use.
- Freezing your baby food this way allows you to introduce different food types, tastes and textures in small quantities to your baby. This is also a good way of managing wastage as quantities are small.
- Always allow food to thaw thoroughly before heating.
You can also use plastic food freezer bags; spoon or pour your baby's pureed food into the bags, label and store in the freezer ready for use.
- You should never freeze your baby food in a glass container/bottle unless the container has been labelled by the manufacturer for freezing. In doing so, you may cause the glass to burst whilst in the freezer.
- Try to use plastic containers if you do not have ice cube trays or plastic food bags.
- Always allow food to thaw out thoroughly before heating.
