Making Healthy Choices
Child or adult, sporty or not, healthy eating is for everyone. Choosing the right balance of foods is a key step in keeping ourselves healthy.

- Guideline Daily Amounts Logo
Here are some tips for healthy eating:
- Enjoy a variety of different foods
- Eat at least five portions of fruit and
vegetables each day
- Try to keep your fat intake in check
- Aim for less than 6g of salt a day
- The occasional treat puts a smile on your face!
Try to keep active in your daily life too. You don’t have to join a gym - exercise can include dancing, gardening, cycling and even housework! Walk whenever you have the chance, it’s free and if you head off with a friend it gives you an ideal chance to catch up too.

Guideline Daily Amounts
A quick glance at the front of Nestlé packs will show you the amounts of five of the key nutrients in a serving of that food. You will also see this expressed as a portion of the Guideline Daily Amount, or GDA.
There are GDAs for sugars and salt as well as for calories, fat, saturates, protein, fibre and carbohydrates. GDAs have been developed for adults as well as children.
GDA tables
Nutrient Adults Children (5-10yrs)
Calories 2000 1800
Protein 45g 24g
Carbohydrate 230g 220g
Sugars 90g 85g
Fat 70g 70g
Saturates 20g 20g
Fibre 24g 15g
Sodium 2.4g 1.4g
Salt Equivalent 6g 4g
Guideline Daily Amounts have been developed to help you get the balance right in your diet. GDAs are guidelines for the amounts of the main nutrients in your diet. They are guidelines, not targets. It’s a good idea to stick pretty close to the GDAs for calories, sugar and fat and you will be doing yourself a favour if you keep your intake of salt and saturates below your GDA.

Nutritional Information
Simple nutrition labelling is provided on most food products so you can see, at a glance, which nutrients are found in a serving of the foods you choose.
Full nutrition labelling is found on the back of the majority of Nestlé packs, showing in detail the amount of the main nutrients in the food. The ‘per serve’ information shows what you get in each portion and you can use the per 100g information to compare the nutrients in two different foods. You can see a typical label with nutrition information by clicking here.
Smaller packs may only have space for the key nutrients, but you can find the detailed nutrition information for all Nestlé UK foods by clicking here.
All Nestlé products feature the Nestlé Nutritional Compass, to help you understand more about the product. In addition to the nutrition information panel and GDA information, many of our packs include messages about the nutrients in the product (Good to Know) as well as helpful tips or good habits to adopt (Good to Remember). The Good to Know and Good to Remember boxes give you more detailed information about key nutrition matters and also hints and tips on including the products in a healthy balanced diet. Take a look at the Nestlé Nutritional Compass here.
