Nestlé UK & Ireland signs up to Mindful Employer charter

As a major employer in the UK we seek to actively encourage and support our employees to lead healthier lifestyles whilst at work and beyond. Our employee wellness strategy considers health from a whole-person perspective, covering physical and mental health, nutrition, work-life balance and the workplace environment.

As part of our ongoing commitment to support our employees’s psychological wellbeing we have signed up to the Mindful Employer charter. This is a public commitment confirming that we are positive about our employee’s mental wellbeing.

Mental wellbeing is a hugely important area of the Nestlé employee wellness strategy.  We have been working really hard to understand and improve what we can do as a business to promote great mental wellbeing and support our employees who may be struggling to achieve the same.
By signing up to MINDFUL EMPLOYER® it will help us and our employees with easier access to information and support for staff who experience stress, anxiety, depression or other mental health conditions.

This is an extension of our work already underway on mental wellbeing in the workplace. In 2016 we conducted a "wellbeing at work" survey to hear from our employees what the enablers or barriers are to having a great day at work. These insights from the survey continue to guide and inform our mental wellbeing strategy.

Since the survey, we have launched a bespoke training package using the most up to date evidence -led approach to give our line managers the resources and skills to help promote positive psychological wellbeing in their teams and to recognise when or if people are struggling. All our employees have access to a resilience support toolkit and we created a team of internal facilitators to carry out resilience support and training to teams.

Speaking about becoming a signatory to the Mindful Employer charter, June Clark, Health and Wellbeing Manager said:
"Supporting our employees’ mental wellbeing plays a key part in our overall strategy and we are serious about giving our employees access to help and the tools they may need, when they need them.

Becoming a signatory to MINDFUL EMPLOYER®, is a clear sign that that we take this seriously and are positive about our employees’ mental wellbeing."
