RICHARD
Financial Planning Reporting Assistant
After leaving college, I wasn’t too sure what to do with myself. Most of my friends were going to University but that just didn’t appeal to me. I joined a recruitment agency to do some temp work until I could figure out what I wanted to do and ended up temping for a couple of years, picking up valuable finance experience and good exposure to reporting.
A short while later I managed to secure an interview for a Sales Finance Administrator position at Nestlé. I was really happy to be considered a suitable interviewee for a company as big as Nestlé although secretly I wasn’t feeling very optimistic. I felt as though I was ‘boxing above my weight’. Even though I had good background experience, I was sure I would be beaten by another candidate with more academic experience than me. I must have done something right on the tests and in the interview, as I received a call within a week telling me I had been successful. I was delighted and couldn’t wait to start.
I have now been at Nestlé for just over a year and have been promoted to a Financial Planning Reporting Assistant. It’s great and I haven’t had a day where I have woken up and thought “Oh dear, not another day in the office”. The work and my colleagues are terrific. I plan to study CIMA with the help and support of Nestlé to further increase my skills and knowledge, and of course become a qualified accountant.
